Research positions in Computer Science/Medical Imaging (under IMAGE-IN, a MSCA-ITN-EID project)

We are searching for two early-stage researchers within the European Industrial Doctorate IMAGE-IN: Imaging infections: integrated, multiscale visualization of infections and host response a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (MSCA-ITN-EID) of the European Commission.

POSITION 1: “3D visualization and correlation from different spectroscopic imaging modalities to define the pathogen niche”

We aim in developing improved data analysis algorithms for the 3D visualization of infected cells using 3D image stacks.

For that goal, we will explore combined spectroscopic data sets consisting of fluorescence images, hyperspectral Raman images, realtime intra-vital multimodal imaging (CARS, TPF, FLIM, SHG) and FIB-SEM of infected cells from controlled in-vitro experiments.

Work will be carried out in close collaboration with the University of Aveiro (Prof. Carlos Costa, IEETA), where it is planned a research stay of 6 months.

A 12 months secondment is also planned at the Leibniz- IPHT (Prof. Rainer Heintzmann, FSU), and at ChemoX, a German young start-up with expertise in chemometrics/statistics.

POSITION 2: “Collaborative Research Framework for Pathomics”

We want to develop a collaborative cloud-based system able to collect pathology imaging studies, extract and indexes features.

This framework aims to allow managing research and educational datasets and the respective annotation process, enriched with tools for extraction of statistical, morphological and spatial metrics/indicators.

The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the University of Aveiro (Prof. Carlos Costa, IEETA), where it is planned a research stay of 6 months.

A second stay of 10 months is planned at the Leibniz- IPHT (Prof. Thomas Bocklitz / Prof. Juergen Popp, FSU), for statistical analysis of multimodal data, and a third of 2 months at University of Coimbra (Prof. Lina Carvalho, FMUC), for image interpretation.
