Automatic detection of microcalcifications in mammography -Outcomes of the MammoAssist project

In July 2018, BMD started a new project (MammoAssist, P2020 program) in a partnership with NEADVANCE, to develop a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for the detection and classification of microcalcifications in direct digital mammography.

The aim was to create an API which allows extending PACScenter with third-party image processing tools. The final CAD solution was validated by several breast cancer physicians, in several major Portuguese centres.

The project is now successfully completed, get to know some information about it in our four-part webinar, available in the videos below.

BMD Software – Past, Present and Future

BMD is an SME targeted to the development of novel biomedical software solutions. The company is grounded on the +20-years’ experience of its members on innovative biomedical applications, from bioinformatics to medical imaging.

Get to know what we have accomplished, what we are currently up to and what are our future perspectives.

About the PACScenter solution

Our main solution is PACScenter, a medical imaging platform to archive, view and share studies. See more about it in the following video.

Integration of the Annotation CAD

As you may know, the MammoAssist consisted in the creation of a tool capable of helping professionals in the early diagnosis of breast cancer, through the automatic detection of microcalcifications in mammographies.

This is now possible due to the Annotation CAD integrated into the PACScenter viewer. See our explanation below!

Dissemination

Lastly, to boost the results of this project, we have decided to enrol in a co-exhibition in MEDICA 2019, in Düsseldorf, Germany. See how it went in the following video.
