BMD unveils new PathoBox features at Portugal’s Leading Pathology Congress

During the 20th and 21th November, BMD team had the opportunity to participate in the 20th National Congress of the Portuguese Society of Anatomical Pathology (SPAP). The event brought together leading experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals to explore the future of anatomical pathology. BMD had the pleasure to present our digital pathology solution, PathoBox, to such an engaging and forward-thinking audience. We demonstrate PathoBox’s capabilities live, including:

  • Its DICOM-compliant whole-slide imaging viewer.
  • Collaborative annotation framework for expert pathologists and AI-powered automation
  • Advanced structured reporting environment.
  • Upload, visualize, and organize microscopy and macroscopy images within the same digital workflow.
  • Manual scale assignment, enabling pathologists to define or adjust measurement scales directly.

The feedback from participants was extremely positive, reinforcing the importance of flexible, interoperable, and user-centric digital pathology solutions.

Below are a couple of photos from our booth and demonstrations during the event:

Looking ahead: What’s next for PathoBox?

BMD team is currently working on a new version of PathoBox, that will enable pathologists to stay within a single platform:

  • Unified workflow for micro and macroscoping images: Next step for PathoBox is to bring together LIS reporting, image visualization, and the ability to request new technical procedures without needing to switch systems.
  • Improved traceability and standardization: By centralizing every step of the diagnostic and report process, PathoBox aims to strengthen consistency and auditability across the entire pipeline.

These enhancements will further strengthen PathoBox as a unified, interoperable platform for digital diagnostics.
